FAQ:
Who are you guys & whatâs this pop-up?
Weâre a Toronto based custom light shop that runs EL-Wire workshops too back home. Weâre here to experience Stampede & see some signage we made for the event, and figured we can share some light art fun with you guys during our stay!
Whatâs with the designs?
Between all the Stampede themed designs, we chose cowboy boots because we fell in love with the creativity in patterns found across various styles of boots. And since weâre doing this at a coffee shop, we had to give people an opportunity to make something for their home coffee bar! Weâre also a Chinese owned business so we love making words in Traditional Chinese Characters.
What are the materials weâll be using?
EL Wire is a thin, flexible copper wire coated with phosphor, which glows when an electric current passes through it. It's powered by x2 AA batteries, & it's what weâll be using! It's not as bright compared to LED & Glass, but provides the most creativity from its lightweight, portable features. Because they're about 2-3mm wide, they're the only things you can use to make extremely delicate, intricate designs.
Will the class really take 2 hrs?
Time will depend on the complexity of the design (the boots will probably take longer) & whether or not youâre a perfectionist! But donât worry- if you donât complete the sign within the 2 hrs, youâll have the knowledge & materials to finish it at home at your own pace.
Cowboy boot design: Why am I only making the pattern of the boot, and have limited colors?
The cowboy boots require us to make the boot portion ahead of time, and youâll only be completing the pattern inside. This is because itâs an intermediate design, and we want you to be able to finish the sign confidently without feeling exhausted and defeated! Regarding colors, beacuse this is a pop up and we have limited space in our travels, we chose 2 stunning colors that would go well with the Pink boot and Light blue boot.
Can I make changes to the character or color after I submit the form?
To ensure everything runs smoothly, we ask that all color or character choices be finalized after submitting your Google form. We appreciate your understanding, as making changes last minute would affect our preparation and fairness to other participants. Thanks for helping us keep the day flowing for everyone!
Why is the workshop 21+?
The craft weâll be doing requires certain motor skills and we want to make sure participants will be able to complete this without disappointment. Feel free to sign up for your newsletter on our website for future announcements on workshops with lower age requirements!
Is food allowed?
Due to the nature of the materials weâll be using involving electronics, we ask that you donât bring any food. Feel free to bring a water bottle.
How do I get there? Will there be parking?
There is limited street parking for this location, we encourage participants to carpool or take public transit. Please note Monogram Coffee has multiple locations, make sure you go to the one at Fifth Avenue Place. For any other questions, please email us!
